Statement about New Horizons Band
It's fun!
Obituary was written by Murray's
granddaughter.
Murry Augustus Allman, 73, passed away early
Monday morning, November 26, 2007.
There was never a joke he had not pulled out of an old hat or a stranger he would not
hesitate to engage in a friendly conversation.
Murray was born on September 4, 1934 to his now deceased parents, George and Ola Allman.
He was raised in Brownwood. Disciplined even as a boy, Murray became an Eagle Scout in
1951, Boy Scouts of America's highest honor.
Growing up, he had a love for music and took that enthusiasm and talent to earn a
bachelor's and master's degree in music from Howard Payne University and North Texas State
(now the University of North Texas) respectively.
Murray worked with devotion as a high school band director, photographic salesman and
photographer. Later in life, he could always be seen camera in hand at family gatherings.
He served years in music ministry at church playing the horn and singing in the choir.
Murray carried a sweetness within him, which could only be explained by a love for God and
His creation.
He is survived by his wife, Patsy Claudette Allman; son Paul Edward Allman and wife,
Terry, of Carrollton; son Carl Phillip Allman of Carrollton; his only sister Lina
Elizabeth Holland of Brownwood; four grandchildren, Kristin, Michael, David and Hannah.
